Counter-Terrorism University to be established in Karachi: AIGP

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Special Security Unit, Sindh Police, Maqsood Ahmed, on Saturday said that a decision had been taken to establish a Counter-Terrorism University of international standard under Security Vision 2020 to facilitate students to study and research new trends of terrorism and modus operandi of terrorists along with new methods to effectively counter the menace.

He was briefing a delegation of students of Department of Criminology and Faculty Members of University of Karachi who visited the Special Security Unit (SSU) Headquarters.

The AIGP briefed the students about the different sections of the SSU and the advanced professional training of international standard provided to commandos, including lady commandos. Pakistan Army, he said, was also providing professional training in different fields to further enhance the professional techniques of commandos.

Maqsood Ahmed informed the students and faculty members that the special weapons and tactics team (SWA), first ever in the country, had also been set up which comprised highly trained commandos equipped with modern weapons and they were capable to challenge any emergency situation if created by terrorists and hardened criminals.

He said the United Kingdom Accreditation System (UKAS) had issued ISO certificate to special security unit, first ever in the country, for maintaining international standard in the field of counter-terrorism operations and provision of foolproof security to important personalities and vital installations. Maqsood Ahmed said the quality management and the scope of professionalism were aimed at effectively curbing the menace of terrorism prevailing in the country. The students and faculty members appreciated the professional standard of the officers and commandos of SSU with regards to security provision to common men and foiling the nefarious designs of the anti-social elements and the terrorists.
