The National Assembly (NA) on Friday passed the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2015 amid opposition’s protest.

Opposition members said that presenting the bill after the polls were held was unconstitutional. The bill was presented by State Minister for Education Balighur Rehman.

The opposition members said that the election of three deputy mayors will increase expenses, adding that no other city of a country in the world has ever appointed three deputy mayors.

PPP lawmaker Nafeesa Shah said that the polls have already taken place but the law was being enacted now. People will make fun of such legislation, she added.

PTI MNA Asad Umar said that Islamabad was a small city and election of three deputy mayors was a strange experience. Legislator Amjid Khan Niazi said that the bill was being tabled as a political bribery.

State minister Rehman said that the government has introduced local government system in Islamabad for the first time. People have given mandate to the PML-N and it was the domain of government to take decisions for sake of the people.
