Gang manufacturing, selling counterfeit currency busted

Police on Thursday arrested seven people involved in manufacturing and selling counterfeit currency and confiscated the equipment used in preparation of the currency.

According to details, a team of City Police’s Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) recovered a huge stash of local and foreign currency, printer, paper, cutters, colors and other material from the accused.

SP CIA Umer Virk said it was a huge network and the gangsters were present in UAE, Afghanistan and FATA. He said that they were investigating the matter to intercept and arrest the remaining suspects of the network. Virk said that the CIA police had received information that some suspects were selling fake currency to the innocent people near Data Darbar and duty free shops. He said that a police team conducted a raid near Data Darbar and arrested three suspects Umer Sohail, Shahzad Khan and Ali Raza.

On their information, the police conducted a raid near Mughal Park, Bund Road, and apprehended other suspects Muhammad Anwar, Zaighum, Sher Baz Khan and Rasheed. The suspects had set up a printing press at a house in Mughal Park.
