Embassy corruption scam: NA speaker seeks reply from NAB chairman

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has sought a reply from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman for not taking action against officials allegedly involved in corruption of billions of rupees in the sale of the Pakistani embassy building in Jakarta, Indonesia.

“The proof of corruption was handed over to the NAB by the Foreign Office officials in 2012 but no action has been taken even after a lapse of four years,” the NA speaker said, criticising the accountability watchdog.

Public Accounts Committee Deputy Convener Syed Naveed Qamar said that NAB has put the matter on the backburner despite clear directives from the Public Accounts Committee to probe it thoroughly and fix responsibility. The NA speaker while referring the matter to the relevant committee also sought a reply from the NAB chairman.

A former general was deputed as ambassador to Indonesia during the government of General (r) Pervez Musharraf. The former armyman allegedly sold the embassy building in Jakarta without proper approval and caused billions of rupees loss to the national kitty.
