The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday reserved its verdict on the petitions seeking measures for security of schools.
The SHC bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah reserved its verdict after the completion of arguments from the lawyers of the petitioners and submission of report by the education department. The judgment will be pronounced later.
Earlier, Pakistan Institute of Labour Education & Research (PILER) approached the court, requesting it to declare that the authorities are under constitutional obligation to ensure comprehensive and effective protection of the all educational institutions.
According to the petitioner, it has been reported that the governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces have formulated SOPs and directed the schools management to follow the same strictly. Fortifying boundary walls, putting up concertina wire on the boundary walls, installation of CCTV cameras and deployment of security guards are among the guidelines for the schools. The petitioner claimed that nothing has been done in Sindh to promulgate that SOP and authorities had put the responsibility of educational institutions’ security either on schools administration or parents.
Citing Sindh police, home department, provincial education and literacy department as respondents, the petitioner requested the country to direct the government for ensuring special measures for comprehensive and effective protection of the educational institutions.
