Meat and meat preparations exports from the country during first seven months of current financial year registered an increase of 17.38 per cent as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
About 45,628 metric tons of meat and meat preparations worth US$ 156.501 million were exported during the period from July-January, 2015-16, as compared to the exports of 42,054 metric tons valuing of US$ 133.351 million of same period last year.
According to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, food group export during the period under review decreased by 12.43 per cent as it came down from US$ 2.548 billion to US$ 2.231 billion in last seven months.
Meanwhile, food group import in country during last seven months also shrank by 2.47 per cent and reached US$ 3.084 billion which were recorded at US$ 3.162 billion of corresponding period of last financial year.
On month on month basis, exports of food group remained on down track in January, 2016 by 20.61 per cent as compared to same month of last financial year, the data revealed. Food commodities worth US$ 368.069 million were exported in January, 2016, as compared to the exports of US$ 463.625 million of same month last year, the data revealed.
On the other hand, food group import in the country during the month of January 2016 increased by 29.86 per cent as compared to same month of last year. Food commodities worth US$ 457.521 million were imported during the period under review as compared to the imports of US$ 352.308 million of same period last year.
From July-January, fruit exports increased by 17.07 per cent and about 351,303 metric tons of fresh fruit worth US$ 102.260 million exported as compared to export of 306,363 metric tons valuing US$ 87.352 million of same period of last financial year, it added.
