Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood on Monday demanded that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) set a time frame for investigating the corruption allegations against him, saying that he was being subjected to a media trial even though the Bureau had yet to bring any tangible evidence against him.
Talking to reporters outside the Punjab Provincial Assembly, Mashhood said that if the Bureau had evidence against him, it should announce how long it would take to frame charges against him. “But this media trial should end as it is only maligning my reputation,” he said.
In his programme DNA on Channel 24, Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami revealed that some top sources in the accountability watchdog had confirmed to him that Rana Mashhood had been thrice summoned to the provincial headquarters for interrogation.
NAB launched an enquiry against Rana Mashhood for allegedly demanding bribe worth millions of rupees from the owner of Future Concerns, Asim Malik. The anti-graft body is also looking into the matter of a fraud worth millions of rupees in the Punjab Youth Festival, for which it has obtained relative record from Punjab Sports Board.
He dared only after PM's indirect threat to NAB and Parvez Rashid joining the chorus. Pakistan is the only democracy ( if there is any democracy) where Ministers don't resign over corruption charges.
