Ombudsman calls for formulating national transport policy

The Federal Ombudsman Secretariat has stressed that the National Transport Policy be formulated with the consultation of all stakeholders along with safety plan.

It has also directed that National Highways and Motorway Police to prepare annual national road safety plan within 30 days.

Senior Adviser Law and Grievance Commissioner for Overseas Pakistanis Hafiz Ahsaan Ahmed Khokher has formally asked the Secretary Communications, NHA chairman and IG Motorways Police to prepare and submit Annual National Road Safety Plan in Federal Ombudsman Secretariat within next 30 days for Motorways and National Highways.

He said that it should include all rectification measures for road safety and improving of roads infrastructure including facilities and awareness mechanism to commuters. It was also urged to use electronic and print media for success of this awareness campaign.

Khokher also suggested conducting short courses for long vehicles’ drivers so that they may have good traffic ethics as well as awareness.

He said that preparation of annual road safety plan would be helpful in further improving the road infrastructure and ensuring safety of commuters.
