Kite-flying goes unchecked in twin cities

 

Kite-flying has been going on unabated in the twin cities as the local administration has failed to enforce the ban on the illegal sporting that has caused serious slit-throats and other incidents in recent days.

The kite-fliers have unabashedly been using iron-string kites as kite sellers have been selling iron strings with no fear.

The ICT administration had recently claimed that stern action would be taken against kite-fliers and violators, however, on ground the sport was going on with people flying kites from rooftops and in grounds.

Though the Aabpara police claimed to have arrested 30 youngsters for flying kites, they have taken no action against the shopkeepers who sell life-taking strings.

A district administration official in Islamabad on the condition of anonymity told Online that no orders have been issued to the local administrations to take action against kite flyers and traders.

Recently, five persons including two journalists were admitted to the PIMS hospital after they were injured by iron-strings of kites.

Despite a ban on kite-flying, the citizens seem to go ahead with celebrating Basant festival in March.
