Says electoral alliance cannot be ruled out
Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Chaudhry Abdul Majeed said on Sunday that the general elections in AJK will be held on time and will not be delayed even for a single hour.
Addressing a press conference at the PM House, AJK PM said that his government was determined to hold the AJK Legislative Assembly elections by the due date of July 26.
He said that NADRA was being consulted for the preparation of the computerised voters’ lists to ensure holding of the polls in a free, fair and transparent manner.
To a question, Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, who also heads the ruling PPP’s AJK Chapter, said that his party would contest the upcoming AJK Legislative Assembly elections independently without relying upon the crutches of any one.
“However, the electoral alliance with any like-minded political group or party can also not be ruled out in view of the suggestions coming from political forces in this direction,” he added.
He further said that the AJK government was striving hard to settle the issue of the usage of 614 cusecs of water from Mangla Dam for drinking and irrigation purposes, through the execution and completion of the mega Rs 7-billion project for greater water supply and sewerage in Mirpur.
The AJK PM said that the matter of the usage of 614 cusecs of water was at present lying with IRSA (Indus River System Agency) for grant of permission for usage of water from Mangla reservoir.
He said the government has approved the construction and renovation of 35 km of roads in Mirpur district including in the city besides the construction of Asifa Bhutto Park on the periphery of Mangla Lake, a grand world-class Islamic university and a military college.
He was flanked by his Special Assistant Ch. Muhammad Ashraf, former MDA director general Mirza Javed Iqbal, sitting DG MDA Ch. Javed Iqbal, Advisor Ch. Haq Nawaz and other members of the party.
