This is with reference to the news item ‘Food firm fined Rs20m for deceptive marketing’ published in your newspaper on February 16th.
I would like to commend the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) for taking this bold decision to fine a private company for copying the product packaging and labelling of a famous brand.
If our authorities allow such kind of practices by companies, it would prove harmful to both the business interests of other companies and brands, and would help flourish compromises on quality of foods.
Pakistan has already not seen in good light regarding patent violations. Such a violation by local companies could add to embarrassment on international level. I guess it is about time that authorities come down hard on rule violation of any kind.
