Governor directs to ensure better health facilities at ASH

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan has directed for constitution of a board comprising of medical experts and philanthropists to ensure provision of better health care facilities to patients at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH).

He issued these directives during his visit to emergency, various wards and laboratory of ASH on Sunday. Principal Secretary to Governor Muhammad Hussain Syed, Commissioner Karachi Syed Asif Hyder Shah and Municipal Commissioner KMC Sami Uddin Siddiqui were also present on the occasion.

Dr Ishratul Ebad said the hospital would also be managed smoothly and properly after the establishment of board. Every health care institution should always prioritise welfare of patients and the ASH should also do the same, he observed.

He also nominated principal secretary, municipal commissioner and senior director medical services KMC for compiling data about existing facilities and required resources for better and improved functioning of ASH in the larger interest of patients.

The governor while taking notice of lack of facilities in emergency and laboratory departments and non-provision of medicines to the admitted patients directed the authorities to make every effort in this regard. He directed the municipal commissioner KMC to take immediate steps to ensure better cleanliness in wards and corridors of the hospital to give it a nice and pleasant look. He also directed to install CCTV cameras in the entire hospital, especially the corridors.

Dr Ebad also ordered to utilise 100 per cent of the revenue collected in shape of user charges in the hospital, preferably in radiology department. He further directed to take immediate steps to provide meal to admitted patients which the patients were deprived of since last 18 months.

Talking to media persons on the occasion, the governor said that the purpose of his visit was to get first hand information about the facilities, requirements and problems of ASH and to make a viable strategy to resolve the same with short and long-term measures. All concerned departments and institutions would be approached to make this health facility more effective, he added.

He said the hospital authorities had been asked to prepare a detailed report containing and covering all aspects for making ASH much-improved health care centre. Replying a question, Dr Ebad said that he would visit other health facilities of the city also to apprise himself about their issues.

To another question about the Karachi operation, the governor said that it was continuing according to the parameters laid down in National Action Plan (NAP). It had achieved tremendous results which were visible to everyone, he added, and said that the people of Pakistan, especially Karachiites, were thankful to Rangers and other law enforcement agencies for peace and tranquility in the city. He economic, cultural, social and recreational activities were at full swing and Karachi was once again becoming a city of lights.
