Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan condemned on Saturday the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for ‘threatening’ the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), while saying that any such move would be resisted.

“We will staunchly oppose any move of the federal government to clip the wings of NAB,” Imran Khan said while addressing a press conference here.

On February 16, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had criticised the bureau over its raids on government offices and residences of officials, asking it to “act responsibly”.

NAB responded, saying it respected the premier’s proposals, but added that the bureau was an “independent institution owing to non-interference from the government.”

Imran went on to say he was against Qamar Zaman Chaudhry’s appointment as NAB chairman following consultation between the PML-N and leader of the opposition Khurshid Shah.

“Both parties have their cases pending in NAB and it is a clear conflict of interest,” he stated, before adding that NAB should nonetheless be appreciated for good work.

Meanwhile, the PTI chief said his party did not force DG Ehtesab Commission of KP to tender his resignation.

Imran also announced the formation of a committee of experts, comprising jurists, to look into controversial amendments in the KP Ehtsab Commission Act and urged stakeholders to express any reservations.

The committee will decide in four weeks whether the amendments hinder the process of accountability, the PTI chief added. Imran said the amendments were introduced keeping in view the issues being faced by the commission.

  1. I am happy that someone like Imran Khan is supporting NAB – if not for the sake of opposition. I also had a negative opinion but after they recovered handsome amout from the defaulters and now started to hold the bull by the Horns. Nobody likes to be criticised but the more resistance comes from those who are afraid of being exposed like what the PM is doing now and Mr 10% joining him in the chorus. Mr 10% has gone a step forward to include FIA in his criticism to arrest his confidant in corruption – Dr Asim.
