Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran on Thursday blamed Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) for violence at the campus. Around 200 students had been arrested by police from PU under anti-terrorism act the other day.
Talking to a private media outfit, Kamran said that according to the statistics, almost all the incidents of violence had been triggered by the IJT. “We have all the details of all the incidents. All of them were initiated by the IJT,” the VC said.
About the recent incident involving violence, he said it started when some Baloch students were listening to music and an IJT member, carrying a pistol, appeared on the scene.
Asked how strangers could stay at PU hostels, Kamran said the IJT especially arranged for bringing some students from Dir and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) who take admission at other universities but stayed at PU hostels. “They come here as guests and then stay here for like ever. Besides, they keep changing the hostels as well”, he added.
The VC said the university had come to know that several students were simultaneously studying at PU and other universities and they were the ones who were creating problems.
