Lahore – Our Lawn Wars Correspondent: Security in the Punjab capital has been placed on high alert ahead of the annual lawn season.
“We have been given intelligence reports that two lawn sales have entered the city and we will leave no stone unturned to ensure maximum security,” said CCPO Lahore Amin Wain. “Extra security has been placed at key points.”
In response to a question regarding the shortage of both riot gear and personnel that the police currently faces, he said that the provincial government had already contacted the federal government to shift over contingents of the Frontier Constabulary to the provincial capital.
“Furthermore, we are also mulling over the option to request for military assistance,” he said.
Tensions run high this time of the year as hordes of the faithful flock to the lawn stores with religious fervour and tempers are known to flare up.
“I have seen neighbours, friends, even relatives forget their relationships during this time,” says Haq Nawaz, head constable Model Town police station. “May God help us manage this season in peace and without an untoward incident!”
