Speaking at the a condolence reference organised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) at the Chamber House for Haji Mohammad Haleem Jan, who was recently targeted and killed by extortionists, the business community leaders said the provincial government had failed to provide protection to them.

They said that Haji Haleem Jan had been receiving threats from the extortionists for quite a long time and he was assassinated by a target killer at Qissa Khwani Bazaar on February 9 for refusing to pay extortion money.

Those, who spoke at the condolence reference, included leaders of the Businessmen Forum Senator Ilyas Ahmad Bilour, Ghulam Ali, President KPCCI, Zulfiqar Ali, Ahtesham Haleem, Fuad Ishaq, Sufi Bashir Ahmad and Sharafat Ali Mubarik.

Leader of the Businessmen Forum and Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Ilyas Bilour expressed shock and grief over the assassination of Haleem Jan. He asked the provincial government to quit and hand over law and order to the Rangers.

Ilyas Bilour demanded that Rangers be deployed in the provincial capital to launch a clean-up operation against the extortionists and target killers. He said the target killings had become a routine in the entire province. The senator added that members of the business community were being killed, but the government had failed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
