With a string of military gains across northeastern Syria, a Kurdish militia is solidifying a geographic and political presence in the war-torn country, posing a dilemma for regional powers. Long oppressed under Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his father before him, Kurds view the civil war as an opportunity to gain the kind of autonomy enjoyed by their ethnic kin in neighbouring Iraq. An assistant superintendent of police (ASP) is said to be involved in the smuggling of Iranian oil in the country.

According to an intelligence report, ASP Keamari Bilal Qayyum has been accused of facilitating the smuggling of Iranian oil by receiving bribe. The report also stated that the accused holds the charge of SSP Keamari as well.

On the other hand, DIG South Dr Jamil downplayed the report by stating that the special branch did not follow the correct procedures in their report. He added that the special branch’s report was directly sent to additional inspector general (AIG) Karachi who forwarded it to the Sindh IG.
