Senate Special Oversight Committee has decided in its meeting to call two ministries at a time and check compliance of recommendations pertaining to eradication of corruption in the Federal Government departments.
The first meeting of the special committee was held under the chairmanship of Senator Javed Abbasi here at the Parliament House on Thursday. The committee after hearing Secretary Law and Secretary Establishment Division decided that all ministries/departments will be called separately to analyse the implementation process as all ministries have different procedures and stake holders.
The matter was referred to the Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights as result of a motion of Senator Col. (R) Syed Tahir Mashhadi in Senate session. The committee gave a set of 30 recommendations on the issue of corruption in federal government departments and after the report’s adoption by House, a special committee was constituted to devise a strategy and work plan for seeking input and compliance of those recommendations. It may be noted that the composition of this special committee is the same as of the Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights.
The meeting also discussed the matters of overlapping jurisdiction of National Accuntability Bureau and Federal Investigation Agency in curbing the corruption cases. The committee asked the Law Division to review, in consultation with the stakeholders, the NAB Ordinance and FIA law to curtail the overlapping jurisdiction, if any, between the two institutions.
The meeting was attended by Leader of the House Senator Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Senator Saleem Zia, Senator Saif Ali Khan, Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq, Secretary Committee Rabeea Anwar, Secretary Establishment Division, Secretary Law, and other officers of Law division and NAB.
