Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Thursday that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was harassing big investors in the country through its irresponsible actions and if this practice continued, they would be forced to flee abroad.

“These harassed investors would flee abroad, leaving behind watchman and us,” Sanaullah said while talking to a group of reporters here.

Referring to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s statement about the NAB, the minister said the premier only wanted the NAB to work responsibly. “There is no pressure on the NAB and Prime Minister only wants it to function with added responsibility,” he added.

The minister said that PM Sharif did not criticise the NAB and what he had said should be perceived as a recommendation. The Bureau should not detain investors for long hours, or none would be interested in investing, he added.

Sanaullah also questioned, “What does the NAB want to dig out from Raiwind Road’s 16-year-old project.”

It may be mentioned that the NAB had apprehended Orange Line Metro Train project contractor Aamir Latif which irked PM Sharif. Launched by the Punjab government, the Orange Line project is being carried out by Latif’s company Kalson Private Limited.

Rana Sanaullah had, on Wednesday, told a press conference in Lahore that PM Sharif reserved the authority to direct the National Accountability Bureau. He had said that Punjab authorities would welcome Bureau’s action against corruption in Punjab.

The minister had said that he was liable to offer a reasonable justification if corruption worth a penny was proven against him. He had urged different sections of society to draw positive conclusion from the prime minister’s statement regarding Bureau’s working.
