IHC serves notice to AGP, ECP in PTI’s plea regarding mayor, deputy mayor joint elections

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday re-issued notices to all parties including Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP), Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Interior Secretary and Secretary Law about holding elections of mayor and deputy mayors in the federal capital summoned response and adjourned the hearing for an indefinite time.

The two-member bench of IHC comprises of Justice Noor-ul-Haq N Qureshi and Justice Athar Minallah conducted the hearing.

During the course of the hearing, Haider Masood, the counsel of petitioner appeared before the court. The court while taking notice of the absence of defendants issued notices and summoned reply.

The writ petition was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) saying that joint elections of mayor and deputy mayor were against the constitution which is a matter of grave concern for PTI and common citizens .

The writ petition further says that space of joint candidate is against the democratic values under the provisions including (1), (1) (12) and 3 (12) of Islamabad local government ordinance 2015.
