AJK PM creating hurdles in CEC’s appointment, says federal minister

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Chaudhry Barjees Tahir has said that  Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed is creating hurdles in the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) for holding transparent elections.

The AJK government wanted to conduct election on old voters list, he said while talking to a news channel.

The minister said the federal government had provided massive funds to the AJK government as compared to previous Pakistan People’s Party government. The federal government had released Rs 139 billion to AJK for developmental and non-developmental expenditure, he added.

He strongly condemned the Nakyal incident and expressed grief over the demise of an innocent citizen. Nakyal was a sensitive area where untoward situation had occurred many times in the past, he maintained.

He asked Abdul Majeed to constitute a judicial commission to investigate the incident as maintenance of law and order in AJK was his government’s responsibility.

He alleged that many workers of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) AJK had been arrested by the AJK government and incidents of torturing women were also reported.

He said the AJK prime minister had used abusive language against him which was published in various sections of the press. He advised Majeed to avoid using derogatory language against the federal ministers.

He said the AJK PM had threatened of a bloodshed in case the policies of the Center regarding the area remained unchanged. He said he totally agreed with Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid, who while speaking in the National Assembly had offered the Leader of the Opposition to become an arbitrator and he and the AJK Prime Minister would bring the record of the incident before him.

He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had appointed him as Minister for Kashmir Affairs and it was his duty to solve the real issues of the area.
