Intelligence agencies have issued a warning of possible terror attacks on top government officials and politicians by banned militant outfits in Karachi.
“It has been learnt through interrogation from terrorists of banned organisations (al Qaeda/Lashkar-e-Jhangvi) that they are planning to attack important government officials and politicians by preparing local-made bombs,” a letter issued by security agencies read.
Intelligence-based reports suggest that terrorists could make use of sweets boxes of any popular brand to hide their bombs and send them to their targets. ”Two such boxes have been recovered from the possession of those under custody,” the letter added.
“Local-made bombs will be sent in the packing of Dilpasand Sweets’ tin boxes (or any other popular brand) for their assassination,” the statement said.
The development comes only two days after the military announced the arrest of several high profile terrorists in Karachi who were collaborating to free the mastermind of American journalist Daniel Pearl’s murderer, among other notorious terrorists from Hyderabad jail.
The capture of three most-wanted terrorists from different proscribed groups; however, reveals the outfits are now working together to carry out attacks, military’s chief spokesperson Lt Gen Asim Bajwa told journalists on Friday.
During the press conference, Bajwa disclosed the arrest of Naeem Bukhari, the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) Karachi chief; Sabir Khan alias Munna, the deputy chief of LeJ Karachi chapter; and Farooq Bhatti alias Musanna, the deputy of the Afghanistan-based leader of al-Qaeda’s South Asia wing.
