Bowler Wahab Riaz and batsman Ahmad Shahzad have been fined 40 and 30 per cent of their match-fee, respectively, after the two players indulged in a scuffle during Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators’ match on Sunday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The two players have been fined by Sri Lankan match-referee Roshan Mahanama.
“Wahab Riaz and Ahmad Shahzad have been fined 40% and 30% of their match fees respectively by the match referee for the altercation,” an official statement from PSL read.
Hot words were exchanged between them before they came into physical contact. The duel ensued in fifth when Riaz bowled Shahzad out after being hit for a six. Other players had to intervene to ensure that no harm was done.
Riaz had been previously warned as well to keep things under control during the event so he was slapped with a 40 per cent fine.
Skippers Shahid Afridi and Sarfraz Ahmed however downplayed the incident, saying such things happen in the heat of the moment.
“The fight shouldn’t have happened in the first place because it doesn’t look good. However this happened and we can’t do anything about it now,” Afridi said.
Expressing similar views, Sarfraz said, “It all happened in the heat of the moment and shouldn’t have happened; that’s all I can say about it as we need to move on and focus on challenges ahead.”
