While presenting the Best Supporting Actor award to, as she put it, “some very attractive men”, Rebel Wilson decided to discuss the issue of diversity in film.
This is despite Stephen Fry not mentioning it at all during the evening, and saying it wasn’t an issue.
Wilson said: “I have never been invited to the Oscars, because as you know they are racist.
“But the Baftas have diverse members , and that’s what we all want to see in life isnt it, diverse members.”
Everyone laughed at this, especially Idris Elba, who put his head in his hands as he shook with mirth.
Wilson noticed this and said he was making her feel uneasy, because “I am sociologically programmed to want chocolate on Valentine’s Day.”
Stephen Fry found this funny, and said with a wry smile that she was “Rebel without a pause button”.
Mark Rylance has won Best Supporting Actor at 2016’s Bafta Film Awards, seeing off competition from Christian Bale (The Big Short), Benicio Del Toro (Sicario), Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation) and Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight).
Another exciting speech of the night was Kate Winslet’s.
She dedicated her award, which she won for her role in Steve Jobs, to teenage girls, and opened up about her past.
