Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the government had increased annual allocation for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) from Rs40 billion to Rs105 billion, state media reported on Sunday.
The prime minister said this while giving approval in increase in the annual stipend to BISP beneficiaries.
He said the annual stipend had been enhanced from Rs.12,000 to Rs.18,000 during the last two years, which were now further increased to Rs.18,800.
Nawaz Sharif said the government is fully committed to protect vulnerable segments of the society.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said stipend at the enhanced rate of Rs4, 700 per beneficiary per quarter would be payable with effect from July 1,2015.
