Islamabad has witnessed a raising number of beggars on the streets and in squares recently.
Some avenues and boulevards like Constitution Avenue or Margalla Road may be free of the nuisance of beggars but other areas, especially in the outlying ones beggars can be seen frequently.
Some labourers can also be seen begging, particularly in the evening. A labourer, Raheem Khan, begging on a G11 signal said that because of no permanent job he has to beg.
Usually peaceful plans of strolling or sitting outdoors are ruined by the constant persistence of these beggars.
This forms a negative impression on the visitors as well. People who visit Islamabad mostly complain that’s its very awkward for them to see such activity in the capital of Pakistan.
“We came to Islamabad from Abbotabad for a wedding but faced a lot of difficulty because as whenever we would walk around, groups of beggars encircles us and that is really irritating as they ask for money and food again and again” said Aleena Mahsud., a visitor.
She appealed to the authorities concerned to keep a check. The government should take serious steps to stop such activity, Ghulam Abbas Moharrar police station Ramna, said that Interior ministry have now established squads for anti-begging.
He has deployed a special squad to keep a check on beggary round the clock so that alm seekers do not become common. He is specially focusing on the children that beggars use as baits.
