A district court on Thursday gave more time to police to file their reply on a plea seeking registration of a case against Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz and his wife under the anti-terrorism act.
A complaint had been filed with the court by a civil society representative for registration of a case against the couple. The court had referred the application to the additional session judge.
The judge on Thursday summoned the station house officer for the Abpara police station. The court granted the police more time upon their request, and adjourned the hearing till February 27.
The complainant, Khurram Zaki, had submitted that Maulana Abdul Aziz and students of Jamia Hafsa-Lal Masjid had released a video on social media, in which they showed their support to the international terror outfit Daesh, and urged people to take revenge for Osama bin Laden’s killing and the Lal Majid operation.
The complainant had requested that Aziz be arrested after registration of an FIR under the anti-terrorism act and other relevant laws as he and his wife had confessed to having released the controversial video.
