The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RBC) has decided to hand over the Cantonment General Hospital to a private sector.
The move comes as the hospital has been bearing loses for many year now.
As part of the privatisation process, the RCB has initially sacked over 30 employees of the hospital before handing it over to the private sector, a source in the hospital said.
The source said that over 0.2 million populace of the area would face hardships if the only government hospital was privatised.
The hospital has a total budget of Rs360 million of which Rs111 million is spent on purchasing medicine annually while Rs750 million goes to salaries of the employees annually.
According to the source, the hospital administration has contacted a private medical college to take charge of the hospital and the response is awaited. He said that they were also in contact with other private teaching hospitals.
