Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar has taken notice of the increase in prices of medicines across the country.
According to a statement issued on Thursday, the minister has called a meeting of representatives of all pharmaceutical companies and distribution companies to tackle the issue.
The ministry has so far taken action against 12 pharmaceutical companies for overcharging.
Saira said that the price committees were responsible to fix the rates of different medicines in the country. She also said that the prices of medicine for Hepatitis C would be reduced very soon.
After Punjab, prices of live-saving drugs have gone up in Sindh by 70 per cent.
The Drug Regulatory Authority has failed to control the prices of multi-national companies’ medicines. Prices of medicines for heart patients and diabetics have also shoot up from Rs 56 to Rs 92.
