Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) nominee for the slot of Karachi’s mayor Waseem Akhtar has said that his party will move the Supreme Court if powers are not devolved to the local government representatives.
“The local government polls took place under the Supreme Court’s orders,” Akhtar said. “But powers are not being devolved to the LG representatives. We will move the SC under 140-A of the constitution to get orders for devolution of powers to local governments across Pakistan,” he said while talking to media persons outside the Sindh High Court on Wednesday.
He alleged that false cases had been registered against him.
“These cases will soon be disposed off. Almost 15 or 20 cases are being registered against me every month,” he said. “Even if we clap, a treason case is registered against us,” he said, adding that he hoped that the courts would provide him justice.
