The first formal meeting of the Sindh police management board was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Home Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Sial at Special Security Unit (SSU) Headquarters. At the marathon session, various operational, financial and administrative matters of the police department were discussed. The meeting was attended by Sindh IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali, Additional IGs of traffic, research and development, special branch, Karachi Range, CTD & crimes and other senior officers of the ranks of DIG and SSP.

The police board accorded due approval to the ‘promise of peace’ project. The said project has been conceived and prepared by AIG Security SSP Maqsood Ahmad Memon. He also gave a detailed presentation about the ‘promise of peace’ project and outlined its benefits for the citizens. The chairman and members of police management board directed the AIG security to make efforts on priority for the establishment of Institute of Peace and Policing Studies (prospective Counter Terrorism University), police facilitation centers and police emergency services-911.

The AIG security informed the police management board that the said counter terrorism university would be a learning and research center of international standards to counter terrorism in region with focus on study and identify ideology and new trends of terrorism and terrorists’ modus operandi. “The university will cater to development of new training for police personnel of all ranks in view of changing criminal and terrorists’ strategies,” he added. The AIG security was confident that the operation of ‘promise of peace’ project would help strengthen the successful implementation of the national action plan in the province.

Maqsood Memon briefed the participants that the police facilitation centers would provide 24/7 services to citizens through one window process and helpdesk. “Helpdesk is intended to provide a trouble free interface and guidance for all sorts of public complaints,” he observed. The AIG security further informed that police emergency services-911 was a noble idea to integrate Madadgar-15, Muhafiz force, command and control center and fire fighting department, ambulance service, SSGC, KE, KWSB and DHA under one umbrella to create collaboration between police and other departments in order to help facilitate general public.
