The recent news of two small children killed in a motorcycle accident reveals the lack of control on its increasing use with abandon. What to say of “double sawari”, there are five or six riders on a motorcycle with children dangling sideways. The cycles have been replaced with cheap motorcycle from China thus multiplying the chances for accidents. It is required to provide motorcycle lanes on roads so that they don’t crowd on the car lanes thus avoiding many lethal accidents. The traffic police should not only look for smoking motorcycle but also for overloaded ones like carrying milk buckets on the sides making a rickshaw out of a bike.
Ladders and iron rods are dragged by these bikes to avoid carrying these in pickup trucks. I have seen a large branch of a tree being dragged by a motorcycle. Such reckless use of bike ought to draw the attention of traffic police for making road journey safe for all concerned. Traffic police must rise to the occasion for devising new regulations for containing the motorcycle threat on Lahore city roads.
