Renowned Urdu novelist, playwright and drama writer Fatima Surayya Bajia passed away in Karachi on Wednesday after protracted illness.
She is a well-known personality in social welfare, literary radio, TV and stage. She had been writing for Islamabad and Lahore PTV centres since the channel began. Fatima Surayya Bajia won many awards for her brilliant pieces of work.
She has written more than 10 plays and drama serials. Her most famous dramas include Aroosa, Zeenat, Shama and Afshan. Her first long play was Mehman, she also contributed for literary programmes like Auraaq, and beauty care programme under the title Aaraish-e-Khaam-e-Kakal and also produced some kid shows.
She had been awarded various awards at home and abroad including the Pride of Performance Award, Hilal-i-Imtiaz Award and Japan’s Highest Civil Award. She has also worked as the Adviser to the Chief Minister Sindh.
She was born in Hyderabad (India) in 1930. Bajiya started her career as an actress in a play aired by PTV in 1966.
Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have condoled her demise and sympathized with her family and prayed for her departed soul.
