Teachers and students of Government Gurunanak Post Graduate College Nankana Sahab remained on toes for two days after the local education officials informed the college administration that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif would visit the institution to review the security arrangements there. However, the college’s faculty and students waited in vain for the CM for two days even though no visit had been planned in the first place, Pakistan Today has learnt.
A faculty member told Pakistan Today on the condition of anonymity that the entire district had been made “presentable” by the local authorities who were anticipating a visit by the CM.
“Educational activities remained suspended at the college as we were told that the CM would visit us and the entire day was spent in cleaning the premises,” he said.
He added that the college administration told the faculty members to remain present in the premises till 3 pm but the CM did not turn up in the district. “On Tuesday we were again told that the CM would definitely make the visit to the college but despite waiting the entire day there was no word regarding the CM’s visit,” he added.
A senior faculty member of the college said that his college remained flooded with senior district officials for two days.
“The government officials treated the institution’s principal as if he were a no body, which is regrettable,” he said.
The office of Directorate of Colleges confirmed to Pakistan Today that the CM was scheduled to visit the district to inspect security arrangements.
A senior official of the district police corroborated the education official’s statement regarding the visit.
He said the police and district administration remained on high alert for two days for the highly-anticipated visit.
Malik Mumtaz, the Vice Principal of Government Guru Nanak Post Graduate College Nankana Sahab, told Pakistan Today that he had been ordered by the Directorate of Colleges to remain vigilant for two days as the chief minister might visit the college.
“We were all prepared to welcome the CM and even kept the students waiting beyond the routine timing but unfortunately the visit did not take place,” he said.
Rafi Ullah, spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, denied that Shehbaz Sharif had planned any visit to Nankana Sahab in the last two days. He said Sharif makes surprise visit without any prior planning and even without telling the district administration.
There is still more of the aspects and the reasons confined with some efforts but those will not be more effective until they could prove this within some practical experience.
