The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved judgement in mayor, deputy mayor Islamabad election case.
A division bench of IHC comprising Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Athar Minallah took up for hearing petition filed by PTI Wednesday.
Farrukh Ahmad Dar appeared in the court on behalf of PTI. He argued that mayor and deputy mayor will be elected through one vote in federal capital which is unconstitutional and breach of fundamental rights.
Justice Noor ul Haq N Qureshi inquired which law is being violated through this process.
Farrukh Ahmad said article 2, 17, 19 and 25 are being violated through this process. The election procedure has been changed and no such precedence is there in any democratic country of the world.
Justice Athar Minallah inquired, “Will you win the polls if these are held in accordance the procedure you want.”
Farrukh Ahmad said “victory or defeat is not our motive. We want supremacy of democratic norms.”
Secretary Law and justice, secretary cabinet division, secretary parliamentary affairs, chief election commissioner and interior secretary have been made respondents in the petition.
The court while reserving judgment adjourned the hearing of the case.
