An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday dismissed the application filed by Uzair Jan Baloch seeking meeting with his counsel.

The Lyari gang war leader, who is currently in Rangers’ detention, had approached the administrative judge of ATC, Justice Muhammad Farooq Shah, through his attorney Khawaja Naveed and Ms Saifee Khan seeking the court’s direction for his meeting with his counsel.

The court announced the verdict after recording comments from the prosecutor general and Rangers’ prosecutor regarding maintainability of the application.

The court dismissed the application after observing that it was not maintainable. Earlier, in the application it was submitted that advocates need instruction from Uzair Baloch and for this an exclusive meeting, in which lawyer and client may have privileged communication, was required.

The applicant had requested the court to issue directions to director general of Sindh Rangers to facilitate the meeting according to law on 10th February or before it. The Lyari gang war lord is currently at Mitharam Hostel, a sub jail, as he is being detained by the Rangers for his involvement in offences falling within Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
