In an early morning operation on Sunday at the international border with Pakistan, India’s Border Security Force (BSF) gunned down four smugglers, including two alleged Pakistani nationals, Indian officials claimed.

The BSF also recovered 10 packets of heroin weighing one kilogramme each and three pistols following search of the area.

BSF officials said that the incident took place near BSF’s border outpost in Punjab’s Ferozpur sector.

They said that the BSF’s patrolling party spotted the smugglers after they crossed into India. At the same time the Indian smugglers who were to receive the consignment had also reached near the border fence.

The troops tried to stop them after which the smugglers started firing at the BSF. In the ensuing encounter, the BSF shot dead the two Indians and two alleged Pakistani smugglers, added the officials.
