A puppy set his house on fire by accidentally switching on an oven in the middle of the night.
Four-month-old Labrador Ted switched on an electric grill as he jumped up looking for something to chew after his owners had gone to bed.
Mum Rachel Thomas, 29, and her husband Robert, 35, were woken by their smoke alarm – and realised something was wrong.
Electrician Robert told how Ted turned on the grill as he clambered around the kitchen trying to find something to sink his teeth into.
He said: “Ted is teething at the moment and was trying to get onto the counter for something to chew. We’re calling him Firestarter now.”
The couple made sure their children, Bronwen, six, and Osian, three, were safe before investigating the cause of the blaze at Clydach, Swansea.
Dental nurse Rachel said: “I thought it was my morning alarm but it was the smoke alarm going off.
“As I grabbed my phone I smelt the burning, I turned the light on and the house was full of smoke. It was terrifying.
“The dog had turned the grill pan on and it set the grill pan on fire.
“I am thankful for the alarm it was a godsend, I would say to anyone to get it fitted properly.”
