Opener Sharjeel Khan and wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal are being considered for Pakistan’s World T20 squad, while all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz could be also be a surprise pick for the mega event being organised in India.
Led by Haroon Rasheed, the national selection committee has to submit a list of 16-member squad by Sunday. Rasheed is currently in Dubai and he is getting input of Pakistan’s T20 skipper Shahid Afridi, who is heading Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League. As per reports, head coach Waqar Younis has already given his suggestions about the team.
Akmal, who was part of the squad which won the World T20 in 2009, has been in sensational form in domestic cricket, and with Pakistan struggling to exploit the power-play overs, the selectors are mulling bringing in someone who could give them an explosive start.
Sharjeel, whose bright start has been blighted by a string of poor performances has also emerged as a contender and might get his chance to prove his mettle once again.
Meanwhile, Nawaz has seriously boosted his chances of getting in the World T20 squad after his impressive man-of-the-match performance in the Pakistan Super League opener for the Quetta Gladiators.
“We don’t expect too many changes. The composition is good enough for now and there are only one or two players who are not performing,” Haroon told The Express Tribune. “We’ve targeted some players in the PSL and are keeping a watchful eye.”
