Despite introduction of biometric system, ghost teachers have outsmarted the education department as 366 teachers and other employees of education have been ‘ghost employees’ in the entire province.

The ghost employees include 260 teachers and 106 other lower staff members. The ghost employees include 24 teachers and 10 other staff members of Larkana district, 10 teachers and four other staff members of Kambar-Shahdadkot district.

In Dadu district, 17 teachers and five non-teaching staff have been found absconding from their government duties. In Hyderabad, 44 teachers and 21 non-teaching staff members were found ghost and in Karachi East 20 teachers and six non-teaching staff, and eight teachers and four clerical staff were detected to be absent from their duties in Khairpur.

The said teachers were checked by teams specially appointed to verify their availability at their respective schools and duty places. The teams found them absent which shows that a lot is yet to be done to force the teachers to educate the future generation of the province dedicatedly for which they are paid from tax payers’ money.

The detailed report has been furnished to Education Secretary Fazalullah Pechuho on Friday who has directed to stop their salaries. The list includes ID, departmental code and CNIC numbers of all the absent employees along with details of UCs, taluka and districts. In January, 232 teachers and 75 non-teaching staff were detected and up to 4th February 28 teachers and 31 non-teaching staff were apprehended as absent.

Pechuho, while talking to reporters here on Sunday, said that action would be taken against all those employees who will fail to get their service record verified through latest biometric system by February 15.

He said there was no truth in the rumors that a test would be conducted for those teachers who were appointed before 2008 or that they would be given golden handshake, adding that the Sindh government had no much money to offer golden handshake scheme to them. He said in some districts many teachers were prepared to resign after hearing of this scheme.

He said HSTs, JSTs and PSTs biometric had been carried out and now college level employees were being verified which too would be finalised by February 19.

He claimed that education system was improving gradually due to the steps taken by the government. Pechuho said there was no room for any ghost employee in the department.
