Wildlife dept foils bid to smuggle 22 tortoises

 

Anti-Smuggling Team constituted by Punjab Wildlife and Parks Director General Khalid Ayaz Khan and headed by Wildlife Assistant Director Hayat Shakoor Manj with the assistance of Customs authorities arrested a Chinese national on Saturday, recovering 22 tortoises from his luggage at Allama Iqbal International Airport.

According to details, a Chinese national with Passport No G24793530 was attempting to smuggle 22 tortoises to Colombo.

Anti-Smuggling Team of Wildlife Department Lahore Region and Customs authorities during a joint action, checked the luggage of the accused and recovered 22 tortoises, Rs 3,750 in Pakistani currency, $1,000 and 300 Yuan.

Anti-Smuggling Team of the Wildlife Department has sent the tortoises to Lahore Safari Zoo Park and recovered fine of Rs 100,000 from the accused.

Punjab Wildlife and Parks Director General Khalid Ayaz Khan congratulated Anti-Smuggling Team on foiling the attempt of smuggling tortoises and said that protection of wildlife will be ensured at any cost. He said that commendatory certificates and cash prizes will be given to the officers and officials displaying best performance in this regard.
