White Lies

 

A fortunate abundance of festivals in the country. There is the Karachi Literary Festival, to be followed by the Lahore Literary Festival. The latter is usually a well-organised affair, though this time the venue might not be the charming halls of the Alhamra Complex on the Mall owing to some restoration being done there.

Then there is the food festival in Lahore and the tea festival in Karachi. There is also the annual book fair in Lahore.

And then there is the Pakistani event taking place outside Pakistan: the Pakistani Super League.

Yet, despite all these, one yearns for the mother of all festivities, one that has been lost forever owing to incompetent political management: basant.

It wasn’t spring till one heard the cries of bo kata in the neighbourhood. Perhaps common sense will prevail and something will be done about it.
