Moulvi Iqbal Haider on Saturday moved the Sindh High Court (SHC) challenging planned privatisation of the Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and execution of Essential Service Maintenance Act, 1952.
Haider, a practicing lawyer, and a chairman of his little known party, Pakistan Awami Tehreek, requested the SHC to restrain the government from privatising the PIA.
The petitioner submitted that PIA’s privatisation was tantamount to economic murder of its workers, adding that unemployment would increase due to this act of the government. “The way government is implementing Essential Service Maintenance Act, 1952 is not right,” the petitioner added.
