PESCO ex-CEO gets six months imprisonment, fined Rs 1m for ignoring court’s notice

Accountability court on Saturday convicted former chief executive Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and imprisoned him for six months along with a fine of Rs1 million.

The sentence was awarded for his failure to file reply to a court notice issued to him. On January 20, when he was produced before Judge Muhammad Asim Imam he argued with the court after which he was issued a contempt notice. However, he failed to file a reply after which he was awarded the sentence. Another case of amassing illegal assets worth Rs35 million was underway against him.

The court also referred the corruption case to another accountability court of Ibrahim Khan.

Another accountability court issued arrest warrant of two witnesses for their failure to comply with court orders and ordered the police to produce them before the court on February 17.

The court was informed that Khaliqyar and Humayun Khan despite several notices were not appearing before the court to record their statements in corruption case registered against former director general Peshawar Development Authority Qazi Laiq.
