Political, religious activists, traders were part part of my extortion racket: Uzair

 

Lyari crime kingpin Uzair Baloch has revealed that workers from political and religious parties as well as office-bearers of local markets were all part of the extortion racket he was once running in Karachi.

Baloch told the investigators that certain traders were also involved in the activities of his extortion racket and got 50 per cent of the extorted money. “The same traders also used to send extortion slips to their opponents,” he added.

Baloch further said that hand grenades were then hurled at shops and businesses of those who declined to pay extortion money.

He told hi investigators that Wasi Lakho’s boys used to terrify defiant citizens through grenade attacks while opponents of political parties themselves came to pay money.

He said that the traders based in Kharadar and Jillani Centre paid millions as extortion money every 15 days through a bookie namely Nadeem Rabbani. Apart from that, he added, millions were extorted from Old City area, Kharadar, Mithadar, Khajoor Bazaar, Goldsmith Market and Bolton Market.
