Prime Minister Nawaz has asserted that the government will not surrender before the illegal protest by employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

He said on Friday that some elements did not want the prosperity of PIA and the country, adding that the government will bring the national carrier back on the right track.

He went on to say that people had given the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government the mandate to make institutions better. In an effort to block an impending strike, the prime minister, on February 01, extended the Essential Services Maintenance Act 1952 to the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for six months.

However, PIA workers have been protesting against the proposed privatisation of the national flag carrier despite the passage of Essential Services Maintenance Act. Dozens of flights have been cancelled due to the strike.
