A notice has been issued by a district court to the capital police regarding an application to register a case against Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Aziz for allegedly using social media to spread hate against Pakistan’s security forces on sectarian basis.

The petitioner, Mr. Khurram Zaki, filed a petition under section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code through his counsel for the registration of an FIR against Aziz, and listed the Aabpara SHO as a respondent. He stated that he had previously faced a lack of response in his attempts to register a case against the cleric.

The petition stated that Aziz had shared a video — through the Jamia Hafsa Facebook page — wherein he “levelled baseless and hateful allegations on Pakistan’s Superior Intelligence Agency, the ISI.

“He has knowingly tried to divide Pakistan’s security organs, which is harmful and dangerous,”

Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Asif Mehmood has  issued the Aabpara SHO a notice to appear in the next hearing, which is scheduled for February 1.
