NA annoyed over delay in construction of additional suites for MPs

Standing Committee of National Assembly on House & Library has expressed reservations over the delay in construction of additional family suites and servant quarters for the Parliamentarians and their staff.

They directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to accelerate the pace of work on the project and to ensure its completion till September.

The meeting of NA body on house and library was held with Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi in chair in the parliament house on Wednesday. MNAs Mian Muhammad Rasheed, Ch. Jaffar Iqbal, Dr. Ibaad Ullah, Mr. Aqib ullah Khan, Mrs. Shahida Rehmani, Maulana Qamar ud din and senior officers of the CDA, ICT and NA secretariat attended the meeting.

The member engineering CDA apprised the committee about the current status of work and said that 31% work on the project has been completed and contractors had assured that remaining work would be completed within given time.

The deputy speaker directed the CDA to make sure completion of work within stipulated time and strictly monitor the quality of work. The member engineering assured the committee that incase the contractor fail to complete the work within given time, the firm will be black listed besides imposition of penalty. The committee also expressed its displeasure over absence of Secretary CADD from the meeting and directed to attend the next meeting of the committee.

They also expressed annoyance over the supply of low quality furniture and substandard maintenance work at parliament lodges. The Committee showed displeasure over the non-implementation of recommendations of sub-committee headed by Dr. Ibadullah, MNA which investigated substandard job of renovation/fixing of tiles in cafeteria and other maintenance work in the suits of parliament lodges. The committee directed initiation of inquiry against the officers and concerned technical staff of CDA who had approved the project of the cafeteria, maintenance work for further legal action against the culprits.
