Court extends physical remand of Ghafoor Wattoo

An accountability court Thursday extended physical remand of Ghafoor Wattoo for another 12 days in Rs 1.5 billion housing scheme scam.

The court also extended judicial remand of main accused Zahoor Ahmad Wattoo for another 14 days in the scam.

Earlier, both the accused were produced before Accountability Court Judge Abdul Sattar. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials requested the court to grant further remand of Ghafoor Wattoo for investigation.

However, the defence counsel submitted that the NAB had not provided any details regarding charges against the accused. He pleaded the court to direct officials for providing details of charges.

At this, the court directed NAB officials to provide details of charges on next hearing and extended physical remand of accused Ghafoor Wattoo for another 12 days.

The court directed officials to produce the accused before the court on expiry of the remand term. The court also extended judicial remand of Zahoor Ahmad Wattoo for another 14 days.

It is pertinent to mention that the accused, in connivance with others, launched Formanites Housing Scheme in 1997 but committed massive illegalities and cheated public at large. In 2003 to 2004, the accused illegally started booking and sold plots in Phase II of the housing scheme despite the fact that no land was specified for it.
