Wine shop in Muslim majority area: SHC seeks comments

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed the excise and taxation department and SHO Awami Colony police station to submit their comments on the petition for closure of wine shops in thickly Muslim populated areas.

The SHC bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, heard the petition filed by Muneer Ahmed, resident of Korangi No 4, who moved the court against open selling of wine in the areas with majority of Muslims.

The petitioners submitted that “Lucky Wine Shop” has been established near Kornagi where Muslim population was in majority in all the nearby areas. “The residents registered their complaints to authorities concerned but no action has been taken yet,” he submitted

Citing SHO Awami Colony police station, excise and taxation secretary and director general as respondents, the petitioner prayed the court to direct the respondents to perform their responsibility and exterminate the wine shops from thickly Muslim populated areas.
